Instrumentel Ltd, is a ‘spin-out’ company from the the School of Electronics at the University of Leeds conducting research and development into Inductively Coupled Telemetry (ICT) systems.
The system comprises an electronic tag and reader unit. The tag is a miniature transponder (akin to an RFID tag), connected to sensors within an environment from which data is to be collected. Power is provided by inductive coupling, enabling the tag and sensors to operate without batteries; thus making the tag ideal for mounting in normally inaccessible spaces or in applications where connecting wires or the use of a battery would compromise metrology.
The reader is a compact electronic device that enables both the inductive powering of the tag and the bi-directional communication of control and sampled data. The system can operate through various materials allowing the tag to be located at the desired point of sensing while the reader is positioned in convenient proximity.
